The EIU softball team fell twice to Murray State Saturday afternoon.

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

MURRAY, Ky. - The Eastern Illinois softball woes continued at Murray State as the Panthers dropped both games against the Racers to fall to 3-6 in the OVC. The Panthers fell to MSU 4-0 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader followed by a much closer 7-5 loss in the late game.

With the loss EIU drops to 9-23 on the season and 3-6 in the OVC while Murray State improved to 14-17 and 4-5 in the conference.

Both Jessica Wireman and Michelle Rogers recorded complete game losses for EIU in today's games as Wireman led the pitching staff with seven strikeouts while scattering five hits.

Haylee Beck had a monster second game against Murray State going 3-for-4 at the plate in the nightcap with a two-run home run, a double, three RBIs, and one run scored.

Both Beck and April Markowski finished the day going 3-for-7 at the plate.

Murray State opened the scoring on the day in the bottom of the first inning of game one. The Racer's Jessica Twaddle reached first base on an error by the shortstop advancing to second base on the throw.

The Panther misfortunes continued as Cayla Levins struck out swinging but reached first safely on the passed ball while Twaddle advanced to third. The Racers put one on the board as Levins and Twaddle stole second and home base simultaneously to give Murray State the 1-0 lead off the unearned run.

MSU extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Levins hit a three-run home run over the left field wall to give the Racers a 4-0 lead.

That would prove to be the final score in game one as neither team could get anything going in the last four innings. Wireman finished the game recording seven strikeouts while giving up three earned runs over her six innings pitched.

The EIU bats woke up in game two against Murray State as Beck homered to left field to score Kayla Bear from first base and put the Panthers on top 2-0 in the first inning. The Panthers added one more run in the first inning as Markowski singled through the right side to bring Katie Watson around to score from second base.

Murray State struck back in the bottom of the first inning as Jocelyn Rodgers doubled to right field to score the runners on second and third base. The Racers tied it up on the next at-bat as Madison Culver singled up the middle to bring around Rodgers and make it 3-3.

Beck recorded her third RBI of the game in the third inning as she doubled to left center field scoring Bear from second base and putting EIU ahead 4-3.

The Panthers did not get to celebrate for long as Murray State's Culver hit a two-run home run to take back the lead for MSU in the bottom of the third inning 5-4.

MSU extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Racers loaded the bases on three straight singles. Rodgers stepped up to the plate and hit a single into center field to score two runners and give Murray State a 7-4 lead.

The Panthers looked to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning as Bear singled to open the inning. Kylie Bennett eventually brought Bear home hitting a two-out double down the left field line to pull EIU close and make it 7-5. That would be all the Panthers could muster as the Racers closed out the game to earn the Saturday Sweep.

EIU closes out their three-game series against Murray State Sunday at 1 pm.
