Women's Soccer Tops UIC 2-1 In Exhibition

The EIU women's soccer team defeated Illinois-Chicago 2-1 Monday afternoon in their first exhibition match of the season.

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois scored two goals in the final nine minutes of action as the Panthers held on for a 2-1 win over Illinois-Chicago on Monday afternoon in exhibition play at Lakeside Field.
 
EIU took the 1-0 lead in the 81st minute as Kathleen Mackinnon scored unassisted beating the UIC goalkeeper in a one-on-one chance. 
 
Madi Fisher scored what would prove to be the deciding goal in the 86th minute as she found the back of the net on an assist from Sarah DeWolf.
 
UIC trimmed the lead in half scoring in the final 1:30 of regulation after Rebeca Pallo found the net on a scramble play in the goal box following a throw-in by Olivia Everin.
 
Both teams finished with match with seven shots on goal.  Hannah Heinz led EIU with three shot attempts.
 
Liz Carmody started in the net for EIU making four saves in 60-plus minutes.  Sara Teteak closed out the match making two saves. 
 
EIU returns to action on Sunday afternoon hosting Evansville for an exhibition match at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Field.
