CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer had its best offensive performance of the season as the Panthers beat Northern Iowa, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon to improve to 2-5 on the season. Prior to today's match, EIU had scored a total of three goals in its previous six matches this year.
Kathleen MacKinnon opened the scoring as the senior found the back of the net in the 17th minute connecting on a cross from
Kayla Stolfa that was sent in from the lower left hand side of the goal box.
EIU took that 1-0 lead to the half with goalkeeper
Sara Teteak making four first half saves for EIU as the freshman goalkeeper posted her first career shutout in the net for the Panthers. Teteak ended the match with six saves as UNI had a 15-5 shots advantage with six shots on goal.
EIU had only four shots on goal in the match but finished with a high efficiency rate with three goals.
Kate Olson gave EIU an insurance goal early in the second half as she knocked home a header in the 49th minute on a ball served into the goal box by
Carrie Caplin on a free kick. The free kick was set up by a hand ball violation by Northern Iowa.
The final EIU goal came off the foot of freshman
Sarah DeWolf as she had a quick one touch in front of the net on a ball passed in by
Elisabeth Held in the 56th minute.
EIU takes the next week off and will return to action on Monday, Sept. 19 hosting Marian University.
