CHARLESTON, Ill. –
Emma Scaro scored in the final six minutes of regulation to lift Eastern Illinois to a 1-0 win over Marian University as the Panthers played their final non-conference contest of the season on Monday afternoon.
EIU improved to 3-5 overall and will open Ohio Valley Conference play on Friday hosting Southeast Missouri at 3 p.m. at Lakeside Field. Marian fell to 5-4.
The two teams played a scoreless first half with EIU connecting for four shots on goal. Marian would have one shot on goal in the first half and three in the match. Freshman goalkeeper
Sara Teteak posted her second straight shutout in goal for the Panthers stopping all three Marian shots.
The Knights had two players see time in goal as their starting goalkeeper Melissa Sturgill came out of the match after 33 minutes due to injury. Sturgill made three saves. Her replacement Jurnee Reveles finished with four saves.
EIU pressured the ball in the final ten minutes and Scaro received a pass from
Henar Urteaga on the left wing. After a couple of dribbles she was able to find the angle and beat Reveles to the low right side for the only goal of the match.
It was Scaro's first career goal after collecting two assists earlier this season.
