CHARLESTON, Ill. - It was a match of firsts for the Eastern Illinois men's soccer team as they picked up their first win of the season defeating Green Bay 2-0 at Lakeside Field Friday afternoon. The win over the Phoenix marks the first win for the Panthers over Green Bay since the 2006 season.

Junior transfer Tyler Enright and freshman Alex Castaneda picked up their first career goals in a Panther uniform to propel EIU to victory.

The Panther defense held firm to record their first shutout victory since a 1-0 win against IUPUI last season. EIU held the Phoenix to zero shots on goal as Green Bay still has yet to score their first goal of the season.

EIU's bench provided almost all of the offensive production during the match recording all but one shot against Green Bay.

It was not until late in the first half when the Panthers scored to take the lead as Yann Nsoga drove down the right side of the field. Nsoga sent a high cross into the box finding Enright near the far post as the transfer from Southwestern Illinois College headed the ball home to put EIU in front 1-0 in the 39th minute. Both the goal and the assist from are the first career points for Enright and Nsoga.

The goal marks the first non-penalty kick goal of the season for EIU as the Panthers have scored at least one goal in each match.

The Phoenix nearly tied up the match in the 57th minute as goalkeeper Mike Novotny had the ball stolen from his feet near the edge of the box. Green Bay's Marcos Bautista managed to chip Novotny and the ball appeared to be headed into the back of the net if not for Alessandro Corti standing tall on the goal line to head the ball back out into play.

It was an extremely tight affair in the second half as Green Bay searched for that match-tying goal. Both squads began to get chippy as eight different yellow cards were handed out in the second period.

It appeared as if EIU would hang on for a 1-0 nothing victory until Jonathan Huerta launched a ball out of the Panther defensive third trying to clear the area. The ball found its way to Castaneda streaking down the middle of the pitch with the clock nearly at zero. Castaneda fired off a last chance shot that managed to find the back of the net with just a little over one second left on the clock to give the match a final score of 2-0.

Each goal and assist came from new faces on the EIU men's team this year, in fact Davis Wegmann was the only returning Panther to record a stat in Friday's match logging two shots against Green Bay. Castaneda also finished the match with two shots, both on goal. Freshman Anton Olsson recorded one shot while Enright's goal was his lone shot of the match.

EIU will be back in action this Sunday as they take on Marshall at 3 p.m. on Lakeside Field following the women's soccer match against Indiana State.
