Men's Soccer Falls Late to Wright State 1-0

The EIU men's soccer team dropped their match at Wright State Wednesday evening 1-0 after a goal in the 74th minute.

DAYTON, Ohio - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team fell to Wright State 1-0 Wednesday evening after the Raiders managed a late goal in the last few minutes of the match. With the loss the Panthers drop to 2-4-1 on the season while Wright State improves to 5-3.

The loss to the Raiders marks the third match in which EIU has given up a match-winning goal in the 74th minute or later.

Julian Montoya and Miguel Carillo led the team with two shots each while both recording one shot on goal. Tim Pieper was the only other Panther to earn a shot on goal in his only shot of the match.

The first half was largely uneventful for both squads as the first period drew to a close with both teams tied 0-0. Wright State out shot EIU 7-3 throughout the first half with shots coming from Alex Castaneda, Trevor Kerns, and Carillo.

It wasn't until the 74th minute of the match that Eric Lynch would record his third goal of the season for Wright State and earn the match-winner. Lynch led the Raiders with six shots throughout the match with four shots on goal.

Marcus Menniti, Brendan McDonough, and Yann Nsoga all recorded one shot in the match.

Mike Novotny who started in the net for EIU finished the match with three saves.

The Panthers continue on the road this Saturday, heading to Tulsa, Okla. for their first Summit League match of the season against Oral Roberts at 7 p.m.
