GAME 29
Eastern Illinois beat Murray State on the road Saturday night for the program's third win over the Racers in Murray, Ky. The win evened Eastern Illinois record on the season at 14-14, 6-9 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Despite the big program victory the Panthers were eliminated from the OVC Tournament race based on other results in conference play. It will mark the first time under head coach
Jay Spoonhour that EIU has failed to advance to Nashville. EIU had been tied for the third longest active streak of OVC Tournament appearances at four. The Panthers will wrap up the regular season at SIUE. The Cougars are currently 5-24 overall, 0-15 in the OVC.
LOOKING FOR A WINNING SEASON
Eastern Illinois needs one win to secure the Panthers second winning season in the last three years and only third winning season since 2001 when EIU advanced to the NCAA Tournament. EIU enters the SIUE game with a 14-14 record after a big road win at Murray State. The Panthers went 18-15 two seasons ago advancing to the second round of the CIT Post Season Tournament. During the 2009-10 season as EIU celebrated 100 years of basketball, the Panthers finished the year 19-12 as they advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals.
PANTHERS SINK THE 3-BALL
Eastern Illinois was hot from 3-point range for the second straight game last week as the Panthers went 15-of-30 from 3-point range during Saturday's 82-65 win at Murray State. The 15 made 3-pointers tied for the third most in a single game in school history. EIU opened the week tying the school record with 17 made 3-pointers at Austin Peay. EIU has now made 12 or more 3-pointers in four straight games as the Panthers have set the school single season record for 3-pointers made with 256.
