GAME 17
Eastern Illinois dropped the first game of its four-game Ohio Valley Conference homestand on Thursday night as Tennessee State made a steal with 39 seconds left in the game to pull away for a win. It was the Panthers first home loss of the season as EIU is now 6-10 overall, 2-3 in the OVC. EIU will hosts Belmont on Saturday afternoon with the Bruins entering the game at 12-6 overall, 4-1 in the OVC. The Bruins are one of five teams currently tied for first-place in the conference race after a road win at SIUE on Thursday night.
GOODWIN CONTINUES SCORING STREAK
Montell Goodwin extended his double figure scoring streak to nine straight games on Thursday night scoring 17 points in the Panthers loss to Tennessee State. Goodwin has averaged 17.4 points per game during the nine game run which dates back to the Panthers December 6 game at Green Bay. He has knocked down 28 3-pointers during that stretch and ranks 7th in the OVC in 3-pointers made this season. For his career Goodwin has moved up to 16th on the EIU career list with 105 3-pointers. He needs three more to tie former teammate
Demetrius McReynolds for 15th.
SMITH GETTING BACK IN THE FLOW
Freshman
Mack Smith continues to work his way back into the flow for the Panthers offense after missing six games in late November, early December, with a shoulder injury. Smith scored four points in his return to action in the OVC opener at Murray State playing 23 minutes. In the last two games at Eastern Kentucky and against Tennessee State, Smith has scored eight points in each contest going 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Smith's best performance this year was ten points in just under six minutes against Fontbonne before he injured his shoulder in that Nov. 24 game.
