CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's soccer fell 2-1 to Valparaiso Wednesday afternoon at home.
Luke Kurili scored his first career goal for the Panthers in the second half, but the Crusaders responded with two more to secure the win in regulation. EIU falls to 3-7-3 overall while Valpo improves to 3-7-2.
Kurili's goal came at the 47:43 minute mark and was the first goal of the match.
Toby Andrews broke away from the defense passing to Kurili who was five yards out from the goal. Kurili sent the ball high over the goalie to get the Panthers on the board. Kurili finished with two shots on goal.
Valparaiso responded less than 30 seconds later with a goal of their own to tie the match. Akeem Bradford sent a header past
Jonathan Burke on a pass from Lucca Lacerda. Lacerda would go on to score the game winner in the 84th minute from a free kick ten yards outside the box.
EIU finished with 11 total shots.
Jake Andrews led the team with four shots, while
Shady Omar recorded two.
Zabdiel Justiniano,
David Camacho Jr., and
Toby Andrews each took one.
Valparaiso took 13 shots with six on goal. Lacerda finished with a team high three shots on goal, while three other players each took one shot on goal.
Burke logged 90 minutes in goal for EIU making four stops. Nacho Miras made three saves.
EIU will be back in action next week with a road match at Oral Roberts Saturday Oct. 20 at 7 pm.
