CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois and Southeast Missouri played even for 90 minutes on Thursday afternoon before the Redhawks were able to slide a goal in during the early minutes of the first overtime for a 1-0 win at Lakeside Field.

EIU fell to 4-7-4 overall, 3-3-2 in the OVC. The Panthers will play a non-conference match at Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday. SEMO improved to 4-7-2, 2-3-2 in the OVC as the Redhawks beat EIU for the sixth straight time.

EIU dominated the shot total in the match finishing with 13 total shots and five shots on goal.Â

SEMO had only two shots on goal but the Redhawks capitalized on the second one as Jordan Nelson sent a free kick into the goal box that Esmie Gonzales flicked on into the goal for the winner in the 94th minute. SEMO's other shot on goal came in the opening half by Jennifer Brien.

Haylee Renick all added shots on goal. Bailey Redden made all five saves for the shutout win.

The match was designated the Hope For Hannah Match as EIU women's soccer player
Hannah Heinz was diagnosed with cancer in the spring and continues her fight. Just over $4,000 in donations were raised for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
