Women's Soccer Wins 4-3 Shootout At Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer rebounded from a heartbreaking loss on Thursday in its final home match as the Panthers picked up a 4-3 non-conference win on Saturday afternoon at Purdue Fort Wayne.

EIU improved to 5-7-4 overall while Purdue Fort Wayne dropped to 3-10-3 on the year.

The Panthers jumped on the board quickly as Itxaso Aguero and Pilar Barrio both scored for EIU in the opening six minutes.  Aguero scored in the third minute as she sent a roller past the Purdue Fort Wayne goalkeeper.  Barrio had the assist on the goal.  Barrio would then score on a breakaway in the fifth minute scoring on an assist from Angela Corcoran.

Victoria Wharton put the Panthers up 3-0 in the first half as the defender scored the 37th minute on a free kick.

Purdue Fort Wayne cut the lead down to one goal in the second half as Kailyn Wade scored in the 49th minute.  Allyson Haymer then converted a goal off a corner to make it 3-2 in the 59th minute.

Haylee Renick scored what proved to be the game winner in the 66th minute for EIU as she found a loose ball played off a defender and drove home her third goal of the season.

Wade added a late goal in the 79th minute for Purdue Fort Wayne.

Daniela Bermeo played in goal for the Panthers.
