Charleston, Ill.- The Eastern Illinois volleyball team took on Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles were able to edge out a five set match against the Panthers winning 3-2.

With the loss, the Panthers fall to 7-16 on the season and 2-6 in the OVC.

TTU came out aggressive in the opening set jumping out to an early four-point lead. The Golden Eagles would hit for their second best hitting percentage of the set at 64%. Ali Verzani led the TTU offense in the first set with team-high five kills.

The Panthers answered back taking the second set 25-22. EIU would hit for their best hitting percentage at 60%. Both teams started out the second set trading points until TTU would break out a 7-0 run midway through the set ignited by a Shaneice James kill. The Panthers kept fighting back with runs of their own to take the set from the Golden Eagles.

TTU and EIU would trade the third and fourth sets forcing a fifth set. TTU would take the third set over EIU 25-22. While, EIU would grab the fourth set from TTU 25-20.

The Golden Eagles would hit for their highest percentage in the final set at 100%. TTU would defeat EIU 15-4 to secure the match. Rachel Thomas led the Golden Eagles offense with three kills.
Taylor Smith led the EIU defense with three digs in the set.

Smith finished with her first double-double of the season with 14 assists and 11 digs.
Bailey Chandler finished with her first career double-double with 20 assists and 11 digs.

The Panthers return home to Lantz Arena to host OVC opponent Eastern Kentucky Friday Oct 19.
