Charleston, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team played host to OVC opponent Eastern Kentucky Friday evening. The Panthers defeated the Colonels in three sets.
 
With the win, EIU improves to 8-16 and 3-6 in the OVC.
 
EIU came out aggressive to start the first set with a 7-0 run. EIU would hold EKU to one tie and lead change throughout the set. The Panthers offense was able to string together several runs throughout the set. Abby Knight and Laurel Bailey led the Panthers in kills with four each.
 
The second set featured similar play to the first set, as EIU would win 25-17. The Panthers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead ignited by a Taylor Smith kill. EIU would grab the lead early and hold on to it throughout the second set only allowing one tie throughout the set. The Panthers hit for their best average of the match during the second set at 71%.
 
EKU came out of the break aggressive taking an early lead in the third set. The Panthers would battle back to steal the set from the Colonels. EIU would secure the match sweep winning 25-16.
 
Laurel Bailey finished with 12 kills, 10 digs, and three assists. Smith led the Panthers with a team-high 20 assists.
 
The Panthers return to action Saturday evening where they will host OVC opponent Morehead State.
