Charleston, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team played host to OVC opponent Morehead State Saturday evening. The Panthers defeated the Golden Eagles in three sets.
 
With the win, EIU improves to 9-16 and 4-6 in the OVC.
 
The first set kicked off with both teams trading points early. The first set featured two ties and one lead change, as the Panthers were able to take the first set 25-23. The Panthers would hit for their best hitting percentage of the night in the first set at 69%. Kylie Michael and Taylor Smith led the Panthers offense with four kills each.
 
The Panthers came out aggressive in the second set jumping out to a 3-0 run. EIU would jump out to a 5-0 run late in the set that would give the Panthers the lead they would need to win the set. Anne Hughes led the Panthers defense with four digs in the set.
 
EIU was able to keep the offensive pressure in the third set. EIU jumped out to an early 4-0 run ignited by an Abby Knight. The third set featured the most ties throughout the match, totaling four. Smith led the Panthers offense with five kills in the set.
 
Taylor Smith finished one dig shy of her first triple-double of the season, finishing with 16 assists, 13 kills, nine digs, and three aces. Laurel Bailey finished with nine digs, seven kills, two assists, and an ace.
 
The Panthers will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois to take on OVC opponent SIUE, Wednesday Oct. 24.
