Charleston, Ill.- The Eastern Illinois volleyball team traveled to Clarksville, Tennessee to take on OVC opponent Austin Peay Friday evening. Austin Peay was able to defeat the Panthers in three sets.
Â
With the loss, EIU drops to 6-14 on the season and 1-4 in the OVC.
Â
The first set started with both teams trading points until Austin Peay was able to jump out to a 3-0 run ignited by a Brooke Moore kill. The Governors were able to control the set with an 8-0 run that would give Austin Peay the lead they needed. Moore led the Governors offense with five kills, while
Laurel Bailey led the Panthers with three.
Â
Similar to the first set the Governors were able to control the set by stringing together several runs throughout the set. Austin Peay would jump out to two 4-0 runs midway through the set to have a big enough lead over the Panthers. Â EIU would attempt a late comeback with a 4-0 run late in the set kicked off by a
Maggie Runge kill. However, it would not be enough to slow down the Governors as they took the second set 25-17.
Â
Austin Peay came out aggressive in the third set with a 4-0 run kicked off by a Jenna Panning kill. The difference maker in the set would be the amount of runs that Austin Peay was able to put together to earn a demanding lead over the Panthers. The Panthers would attempt to comeback late in the set with 6-0 run, however, it would not be enough to stop the Governors as they secured the match sweep.
Â
Bailey claimed her eighth double-double on the season finishing with 10 kills, and 10 digs.
Kylie Michael finished with nine kills, seven digs and a block.
Â
The Panthers will return to action Saturday afternoon where the will battle OVC opponent Murray State at 2 pm.
