CHARLESTON, Ill. - Christian Sosnowski scored the game winning goal for the Panthers to give them a 1-0 win over conference rival Western Illinois. Sosnowski scored five minutes into the second overtime period leading the Panthers to their first conference win.
EIU improves to 3-6-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the Summit League, while WIU falls to 2-7-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the Summit League.
The Panthers took nine total shots with four on goal. Cole Stephens, Toby Andrews, and Nate Francke each had one shot on goal in addition to Sosnowski's.Â
The Leathernecks held an advantage taking 16 total shots with six on goal, but failed to find the back of the net. Paul Kirdorf led both teams with three shots on goal while Daniel Kadima took two and Luke Duball added one.
Jonathan Burke logged 105:04 minutes in the goal for EIU to record his fourth career shutout. He made six saves in goal. Tim Trilk took the loss for WIU finishing with three saves and one goal allowed.
The Panthers will be back in action Wednesday Oct. 10 for a home match vs. Valparaiso.
