Eastern Illinois plays its home opener on Saturday night as the Panthers host in-state rival Western Illinois in Lantz Arena. Ā EIU suffered road losses at Texas and IUPUI to open the season at 0-2. Ā The Panthers shot below 40 percent from the field in both contests. Ā Following the home game, EIU will play three games over Thanksgiving Weekend at the VisitCurrituckOBX.com Battle in the Blue Ridge Tournament in Asheville, North Carolina on Nov. 23-25. Western Illinois enters at 2-1 on the season with two wins over lower division opponents.
FIVE FINISH IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Eastern Illinois had five players score in double figures during the Panthers 71-65 loss at IUPUI last Saturday. Ā The five players were the only players to score for EIU with four of the five starters scoring points. Ā
Ben Harvey added ten points off the bench. Ā The last time EIU had five players score in double figures in a game was Jan. 20, 2018 in an 86-74 loss to Southeast Missouri. Ā
KNOCKING THEM DOWN FROM THE LINE
Eastern Illinois was 21-of-26 at the free throw line at IUPUI finishing with an 80.8 clip at the stripe. Ā The Panthers had opened the season going 13-of-18 from the line at Texas for 72.2 percent. Ā On the season EIU is shooting 77.3 percent from the foul line which is currently first in the Ohio Valley Conference and 40th in the NCAA as EIU is 34-of-44 for the season. Ā All four players that have attempted five or more free throws this season for EIU are shooting over 71 percent. Ā Western Illinois leads the NCAA in free throw percentage at 87 percent (40-of-46).
