Eastern Illinois begins the first of three road games for the Panthers heading in to the Holiday Break as EIU will play at Western Illinois on Saturday night. The Panthers then have road games at Bradley (Dec. 15) and Iowa State (Dec. 21). EIU snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday with a 90-37 win over Fontbonne which moved the Panthers to 4-5 on the season. Western Illinois is also 4-5 on the season after a road loss at Stetson earlier in the week. EIU won the first meeting between the schools this year, 68-66 in overtime.Â
CHARLES WITH A BIG NIGHT
Sophomore
Kashawn Charles came off the bench against Fontbonne to score a career high 21 points in the 90-37 win. Charles opened the game 7-of-7 from the field and finished the night 8-of-10 including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Charles added five rebounds and two assists in the win. It was his second double figure scoring game of the season after getting 11 points against Gardner-Webb at the visitcurrituckOBX.com Battle in the Blue Ridge. Charles is currently second in the OVC in 3-point percentage knocking down 52.2 percent for the season (12-of-23).
PANTHERS POST SCHOOL TOP 5 3-POINT SHOOTING NIGHT
Eastern Illinois had one of its best 3-point shooting nights in school history as the Panthers were 12-of-17 from 3-point range against Fontbonne. The 70.6 percent clip was tied for the fourth best 3-point shooting night at EIU. The best effort was 76.9 percent against Cleveland State on Jan. 30, 1989 (10-of-13) followed by 76.5 percent against Evansville (13-of-17 on Nov. 30, 2002). EIU's best OVC shooting night from 3-point range ranks third on the list at .750 on Feb. 3, 2000 against Austin Peay (9-of-12). EIU was also 12-of-17 on Jan. 25, 1992 against Green Bay with the 70.6 percent tied for fourth with the Tuesday effort against Fontbonne. EIU had seven different players make at least one 3-pointer in the game.Â
