Congratulations to former Eastern Illinois standout linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill as he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles, champions of Super Bowl LII.

Grugier-Hill becomes the latest former EIU football player to win the Lombardi Trophy as former Panthers are now 8-0 in Super Bowl games as players and head coaches.
 
Grugier-Hill is in his second season as a member of the Eagles team and has a been a special teams standout for the team.  This season Grugier-Hill has 22 tackles with one forced fumble.  During the Eagles Sunday Night Football Game at Dallas in late November, Grugier-Hill was put in the national spotlight as he filled in as the emergency kicker for the Eagles after an injury to the starter after the opening kickoff.
 
Grugier-Hill was a two-time first team All-Ohio Valley Conference linebacker at EIU and was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.  He was waived by the Patriots following the NFL preseason and signed with the Eagles.
 
Last season former EIU quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo won his second Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots as the back-up quarterback.  Former offensive lineman Ted Petersen won a pair of Super Bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers back in the late 1970's.  EIU has had two former Panthers win Super Bowls as head coaches.   Sean Payton lead the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl victory and Mike Shanahan has a pair of Super Bowl Championship rings as the head coach of the Denver Broncos
