MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - Eastern Illinois softball split day one at the Charleston Invite. The Panthers played a doubleheader vs. College of Charleston and fell 4-3 in game one and won 8-6 in game two. EIU improves to 18-8 overall.
Seven different players tallied a hit for EIU.
Kayla Bear,
Mady Poulter, and KendylMcKeough all recorded RBI for the Panthers. Bear was the only Panther to record a stolen base in game one. She finished the day with three successful attempts.
McKeough scored the first run of the game with a homer to left field in the second inning. C of C responded with all four of their runs in the bottom of the second inning giving them a 4-1 advantage. Poulter singled up the middle in the third inning to score
Maria DeVito bringing EIU within two runs.
Tori Johnson doubled to right center in the fifth inning and scored off Bear's single to first base, but the Panthers fell short to fall 4-3 in game one of the Charleston Invite.
Jessica Wireman pitched a complete game for the Panthers recording three strikeouts. She falls to 7-4 on the mound this season.
The Panthers stole game two at College of Charleston 8-6.
Mia Davis and
Megan Burton led the team with two hits each while Bear tallied two more stolen bases.
EIU started out slow offensively as C of C took a 3-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.
Breya Cooper doubled to left field in the fourth inning to score
Andrea Roberts bringing the Panthers within one run of the Cougars.Â
Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning as EIU trailed 5-4 heading into the top of the seventh.
Kiley Pelker scored off a sac bunt by Roberts to tie the game up 5-5.
Morgan LaMore stepped up to the plate with two runners on as she homered to left field recording three RBI leading to the Panthers 8-6 win over the Cougars.
The Panthers finished with 11 hits.
Michelle Rogers pitched six innings recording the win. She improves to 10-3 on the mound. Wireman made her fifth save of the season.
EIU will play two games tomorrow to close out tournament play. They will play Georgetown at 10 am followed by Texas at 12:15 pm.
