Baseball Falls Short In Series Opener At Murray State

EIU baseball fell on the road, 7-4, to Murray State

- Eastern Illinois came up short in the series opener at Murray State Friday afternoon. Murray State took the opener defeating the Panthers 7-4.
 
Eastern Illinois fell to 9-12 (1-3 OVC), while Murray State advanced 12-11 (3-4 OVC) on the season.

Eastern Illinois got on the board first in the top of the second inning taking a 1-0 lead. Josh Turnock kept up his offensive dominance as the Panthers leader in batting alive as he got EIU on the board with a single to right.
 
Murray State responded in the bottom of the second stealing the lead from Eastern Illinois. Jaron Robinson hit a two run single to center to get the Racers on the board.
 
After Murray State was able to extend their lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers would add a run in the top of the fifth on a Logan Beaman sacrifice fly.
 
The Racers were able to keep the offensive pressure on the Panthers adding another run in the top of the sixth inning on a Davis Sims single to left center.
 
Dougie Parks was able to drive his sixth home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning pulling a two-run shot to left.
 
The Racers would hit two home runs in the eighth to secure the victory and advance to 12-11 (3-4 OVC) on the season.
 
Michael Starcevich suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers tossing 1.1 innings and allowing three runs.
 
Parks finished the afternoon 2-for-4 two RBIs, a home run, double, walk, and run. Turnock finished 2-for-4 with a double, walk, and RBI. Joseph Duncan went 2-for-5 with a run.
