Murray, Ky.- Murray State's offense was able to score a combined 13 runs to defeat Eastern Illinois in the second game of the series. The Racers Defeated the Panthers, 13-7.
Eastern Illinois fell to 9-13 (1-4 OVC), while Murray State advanced 13-11 (4-4 OVC) on the season.
Trevor McMurray earned his third win of the season, improving to 3-1 on the year. McMurray tossed 5.1 innings, allowing three runs (two earned), five hits, and struck out four batters.
The Panthers attacked the Racers early on in the top of the first. Eastern Illinois added three runs to open up the second game of the series.
Josh Turnock got the rally started with a leadoff single.
Jimmy Huber would advance Turnock to second with a bunt.
Andrew Curran got the Panthers on the board with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. The Panthers would earn their second run of the inning when
Matt Albert was hit by a pitch.
Ryan Knernschield would follow up drawing a bases-loaded walk to give the Panthers the 3-0 lead to start the game.
The Panthers were able to take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth. Â Murray State snatched the lead from Eastern Illinois scoring five runs in the fourth inning. The Racers hit two home runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jaron Robinson hit the first of two home runs, belting a two-run homer to left center. R Scott followed up in the inning blasting a three-run homer to right center.
Tyler Tesmond would help the Panthers fight back hitting a solo homer to left center in the top of the fifth.Â
Murray State was able to add five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory in game two over the Panthers 13-7.
Blake Malatestinic suffered the loss on the hill for the Panthers, dropping to 0-2 on the season. Malatestinic tossed 2.2 innings, with seven hits, and five runs.
Joseph Duncan finished 2-for-4 with a walk. Turnock went 1-for-4 on the afternoon with three runs and was hit by a pitch.Â
