Charleston, Ill. – Morehead State combined for 24 runs in their win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday. The Morehead State offense combined for 23 hits in Saturday's game, defeating EIU 24-11.
With the loss Eastern Illinois drops to 16-26 (5-15 OVC), while Morehead State improves to 26-18 (13-7 OVC).
Alex Stevenson got the start for the Panthers on the hill in the second game of the series. Stevenson picked up the loss Saturday afternoon dropping to 2-7 on the season. Stevenson tossed 5.1 innings, with seven hits, six runs, three strikeouts and a walk.
Joseph Duncan led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer to give the Panthers a quick 1-0 lead. Later in the inning
Josh Turnock would drive in the Panthers second run of the inning hitting a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Panthers would add to their lead in the bottom of the second and fifth inning. Duncan picked up his second RBI of the day hitting into a fielder's choice which scored Ryan Knernchield.
Dougie Parks gave EIU a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth when he hit a solo homer to left center.
Morehead State would grab the lead in the top of the sixth and never look back as they continued to add to their lead throughout the game. Morehead States entire line up in Saturday's game recorded a hit, as the offense combined for 23 hits. Morehead State's offenses exploded in the top of eighth scoring 12 runs in the inning.
Trevor Snyder and Eli Boggess led Morehead State in RBIs in Saturday's game with five. Boggess finished 3-for-7 with five RBIs, three runs, and two home runs. Snyder went 4-for-7 with five RBIs, four runs and two home runs. Connor Pauly went 3-for-5 with four runs, four RBIs, two walks, a home run, and a double.
The Panthers offense would attempt the comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning when Duncan and
Matt Albert hit back-to-back two run doubles. However, the Eagles' pitching staff was able to put an end to the rally to earn the victory forcing a Sunday afternoon rubber match.
Duncan finished the day 2-for-6 with four RBIs, two runs, and a home run. Albert finished 3-for-6 with four RBIs, two runs, a double, and a home run.
