Schuette Gets 400th Win In Sweep Over Murray

The Panthers won both games 5-4

MURRAY, Ky. - Eastern Illinois head softball coach Kim Schuette recorded her 400th career win in the Panthers sweep over Murray State. The Panthers won both games 5-4 over the Racers and improve to 31-15 overall, and 10-6 in the OVC.

The Racers fall to 14-32 overall and 4-12 in the OVC.

EIU will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at Austin Peay. First pitch is set for 1 pm.

Game 1
The Panthers took game one of today's action with a 5-4 win in extra innings over Murray State.

The Racers struck first with a run off a double by Madison Culver in the bottom of the first inning. Kayla Bear scored in the top of the second to even things out a 1-1.

Lillie Goetz led off for the Racers in the sixth inning with a triple to left field. She went on to score off a sac fly to left field from Culver. Murray State scored two more on a two-run homer from Sierra Gilmore as EIU brought in Michelle Rogers to relieve Jessica Wireman. 

The Panthers managed to tie the game 4-4 with two runs in the top of the seventh. Mia Davis doubled to right center batting in Haley Mitchell and Poulter to force extra innings. Poulter went on to tally the game winning RBI as Kiley Pelker scored on her single to the pitcher.

Michelle Rogers recorded the win improving to 15-5 on the mound. Haven Campbell falls to 9-10 on the mound for Murray State.

Game 2
Bear and Mitchell were both 3-for-4 in the Panthers 5-4 game two win over the Racers. Mitchell also finished with a team-high two RBI.

Both teams tallied a run in the first inning, but the Panthers added two more in the second. Tori Johnson reached on fielder's choice and advanced to third base on a a throwing error. Rogers would score on the same error. Bear singled to center field to score Johnson putting the Panthers up 3-1.

Lexi Jones hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning bringing the Racers within one, but the Panthers extended the lead to 5-2 with Mia Davis and Poulter each scoring in the top of the fifth inning. Jones homered again in the bottom of the sixth tallying two RBI as EIU held on to escape with a 5-4 win over the Racers.

Rogers picks up the win improving to 16-5 while Wireman tallies her sixth save of the season. Grace Vaughn collects the loss falling to 0-7 on the mound.
