Cape Girardeau, Mo. – Southeast Missouri was able to hold the Eastern Illinois Baseball team to even out the series. SEMO defeated the Panthers 3-1 Saturday afternoon.
With the loss EIU drops to 10-18 (2-9 OVC), while Southeast Missouri improves to 13-18 (9-5 OVC)
Alex Stevenson suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers this afternoon. Stevenson tossed 7.0 innings with five hits, three runs, one walk, and 11 strikeouts. Stevenson dropped to 1-5 on the season.
Logan Spalt earned the victory on the mound for SEMO, improving to 2-1 on the season. Spalt tossed 6.2 innings with four hits, one run, three walks, and four strikeouts. Daniel Bergholdt picked up his second save of the season tossing 2.1 innings in relief with three hits, and a strikeout.
Southeast Missouri got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Tristen Gagan got SEMO on the board belting a solo home run.
Gagan would extend the SEMO lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when he doubled to left center scoring Trevor Ezell and Peyton Faulkner.
The Panthers would get on the board in the top of the fifth inning when
Matt Albert would blast his fourth home run of the season. However, the Panther comeback would come to an end as the SEMO pitching staff held the Panthers offense in check the rest of the game.
Jimmy Huber finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with a walk.
Frankie Perrone went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Albert finished 2-for-4 with a run, RBI, and a home run.
Eastern Illinois and SEMO will close out the series Sunday afternoon. First pitch is expected to be thrown at 1 p.m.
