Rand Chappell Selected For Henderson State Hall of Honor

Panthers assistant won 120 games in five seasons as Reddies head coach

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Current Eastern Illinois assistant men's basketball coach Rand Chappell has been selected as one of 11 inductees for the 2018 Henderson State University Athletics Hall of Honor.  The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 5 in the Garrison Center Grand Ballroom on the campus of Henderson State.
 
Chappell served as Henderson State head men's basketball coach from 1998 to 2003.  During his tenure the Reddies program compiled a 120-40 record in five seasons.  He guided Henderson State to four Gulf South Conference Tournament titles, three Gulf South West Division Championships, five NCAA Division II Regional appearances and the 1999 & 2001 NCAA South Regional Finals.  Chappell coached six All-Americans and never failed to win more 20 or more games in a season.  He tied the school record for wins in a season with 30 in 2003.
 
Chappell is entering his sixth season as an assistant coach on Jay Spoonhour's staff at Eastern Illinois as the Panthers will open the 2018-19 regular season on Nov. 6 at Texas.
