CINCINNATI - Eastern Illinois men's soccer team opened the 2018 regular season at Cincinnati Monday night with a 2-0 shutout win over the Bearcats.
Toby Andrews and
Christian Sosnowski each scored a goal in the first half of play for the Panthers.
Twenty-two minutes into the first half Andrews took off on a breakaway scoring EIU's first goal from just outside the box. Sosnowski added another goal for the Panthers at the 40 minute mark on a penalty kick.
The Panthers took 11 shots total with only two on goal.
Cameron Behm and
Edgar Mesa led the team with three shots each while
Jake Andrews took two shots. The Bearcats had ten shots in the match with four on goal.
Jonathon Burke played in the net for EIU stopping all of Cincinnati's attempts. Burke finished the match with four saves earning his first career shutout.
EIU will be back in action Friday Aug. 27 for their home opener. The Panthers will take on the Evansville Purple Aces at 4 pm.
