Volleyball Sweeps Omaha

EIU volleyball sweeps Omaha to close out the CEFCU Classic

PEORIA, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team closed out the CEFCU Classic Saturday morning. The Panthers defeated Omaha in their final game of the CEFCU Classic 3-0.
 
With the win EIU advances to 4-10.
 
The Panthers looked to rebound from their opening matches in the CEFCU Classic against Omaha to close out the tournament. The Panthers came out aggressive in the first set hitting for their best percentage of the match at 77%.  The Panthers defense led by Laurel Bailey in the first set held Omaha to only four ties and one lead change. Bailey also led the Panthers in kills with eight in the first set.
 
The second set featured more balanced play as Omaha totaled their best hitting percentage of the match at 58%. The two teams traded points back-and-forth throughout the second set resulting in 11 tie scores and four lead changes. Sadie Limback led the Omaha offense with six kills. Maggie Runge led the Panthers with two blocks in the set.
 
The third set featured the most tie scores throughout the match with 12. Similar to the second set the two teams exchanged the lead four times. The Panthers were able to take control of the match at the end of the match when they would jump out to a 4-0 run ignited by a Katie Sommer kill. EIU would be able to secure the match sweep winning the third set 25-20.
 
Bailey finished with a season-high 17 kills, nine digs, one assist, one block, and an ace.  Bailey Chandler led the Panthers with 17 assists. Runge finished with a team-high four blocks, four kills, and a dig.
 
The Panthers will return to action on Sept. 19 against SIUE at 6pm in Lantz Arena.
