CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer scored in the first five minutes of the match Friday afternoon but the Panthers could not sustain the early momentum falling to Murray State, 2-1, in Ohio Valley Conference action at Lakeside Field.

EIU fell to 2-5-3 on the season, 1-1-1 in the OVC. Murray State improved to 6-1-1 overall, 2-0 in the OVC.

Kate Olson scored the first goal of the match for the Panthers as she headed home a pass sent into the box by
Lexi Ketterhagen off a corner kick. The goal came 4:27 into the match.

Murray State was able to even the match at 1-1 late in the 14th minute when Rebecca Kubin had a break down the left side of the field and scored on a low shot past EIU goalkeeper
Sara Teteak.. Kubin's goal came on an assist from Karsyn Hasch.

The Racers had a chance to go up 2-1 in the first half but missed a penalty kick.

In the second half Murray State goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald prevented EIU from going up 2-1 as she stopped a Panthers penalty kick in the 62nd minute.Â

Following the stop by Steigerwald, Murray State countered and was able to put away the game winner in the 63rd minute. Marley Hall scored the goal as she redirected a cross that hit the cross bar on a corner by Arianna Mendez.

Teteak finished with seven saves for EIU. Steigerwald had three saves.

EIU returns to action on Sunday hosting Austin Peay at 1 p.m.
