Nashville, Tenn. – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team battled Tennessee State Saturday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Panthers in three sets 25-17, 25-18, and 25-17.

With the loss, EIU drops to 5-11 and 1-1 in the OVC.

Tennessee State opened up the first set with a 9-0 run ignited by a Julia Pierson kill. The tigers were able to take their early lead and hold the Panthers offense in check. Tennessee State hit for their highest percentage of the match at .304%.

The Panthers came out aggressive early on in the second set, trading points with Tennessee State. The Tigers would jump out to 9-0 midway through the match, started by a
Kylie Michael service error. The Panthers would answer back with a 7-0 run, however, it would not be enough to stop the Tigers from capturing the second set. Tennessee State would string together a couple of runs throughout the third set to help give them enough of a cushion to secure the match sweep against EIU.

Laurel Bailey finished with 10 digs, six kills, and an assist.
Anne Hughes led the Panthers defense with 16 digs.
Katie Sommer collected five kills and two blocks.

The Panthers will travel to Chicago, Illinois to take on Chicago State Tuesday September 25.
