Men's Soccer Draws In Summit League Opener

Burke records the shutout with one save in goal for the Panthers

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's soccer played to a 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon in their conference opener vs. No. 4 Denver. The Panthers held the Pioneers to their second tie of the season and improved to 2-5-3 overall and 0-0-1 in the Summit League. Denver improves to 8-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Summit League.

Both teams finished the match with eight total shots, while the Panthers held a 5-to-1 shot on goal advantage. David Camacho Jr. led EIU with three shots all of which were on goal. Cole Harkrader and Kris Luke each finished with one shot on goal.

Andre Shinyashiki took Denver's only shot on goal on a penalty kick early in the first half. Shinyashiki's attempt was stopped by EIU goalie Jonathan Burke. Shinyashiki finished the match with four of Denver's eight shots.

Burke played all 110 minutes in the net for EIU making one save. This is Burke's third career shutout.

The Panthers will be back in action next Tuesday Oct. 2 for a mid-week match-up at Northern Kentucky. The match is set for a 6 pm start.
