CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois senior goalkeeper
Sara Teteak turned away seven Southern Illinois shots on Thursday afternoon as the Panthers picked up a 0-0 draw with the Salukis. It was the 18th career shutout for Teteak and the third of the 2019 season.
EIU is now 3-7-2 on the season. SIU is 4-8-2.
A majority of the match was played with each team countering the other on an overcast day at Lakeside Field. Madison Bennion had a good shot opportunity in the first half that Teteak turned away, one of two first half saves.
The Panthers back line also helped keep the ball out of the net collecting two blocks on shots near the top of the box as
Lindsey Carlson,
Rachel Pappas,
Annette Gomez-Gonzalez and
Victoria Wharton all helped EIU post its second straight clean sheet.
EIU finished with two shots on goal with 11 total shot opportunities.
Nicoletta Anuci had a break late in the first half for the first EIU shot on goal.
Pilar Barrio fired in a low shot in the second overtime session that Salukis keeper Dariana Mihalache laid out to the right side of the net to turn away.
SIU would have 15 shots in the match. Bennion and Madison Meiring had two shots on goal each for SIU.
