The Eastern Illinois women's soccer team faced a roller coaster of emotion on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers recognized their seven seniors prior to the match against SIUE. Â

The highs of the day were taken away one minute into overtime as SIUE scored a golden goal in the first overtime session to beat the Panthers 3-2. EIU fell to 3-8-2 overall, 2-4-1 in the OVC. SIUE improved to 5-5-4 overall, 3-3-1 in the OVC.

SIUE used a pressure attack in both halves of the match as they finished with 22 total shots which were evenly spread out. The Cougars had ten shots in the first period, ten in the second and two in the extra session.

The Cougars found the net in the 14th minute as goalkeeper Jensen Schoch started a transition break that was flicked on by a header by Mackenzie Litzsinger. Becca Jostes corralled the ball in the corner and beat two EIU defenders on an attack to the goal for the first score.

EIU was able to counter the pressure of SIUE with some good attacks of their own. Senior
Lexi Ketterhagen had a solid left footed shot on goal midway through the first half that was saved.

EIU broke through early in the second half as
Haylee Renick took a pass from Ketterhagen in transition and scored on a low shot to the net to even the match in the 56th minute,

Litzsinger would give SIUE the advantage again in the 64th minute as she had a quick touch of the ball for a shot that was played into the box by Courtney Benning and Jostes.

EIU would even the match up in the 70th minute as
Sarah DeWolf had a hard shot that hit the cross bar and bounced back out near the top of the goal box. Ketterhagen was there to send the tying goal home.

EIU continued the pressure minutes later trying to secure a win in regulation as Schoch made two good saves on chances by DeWolf and Renick in the 71st minute.  SIUE had one late chance in regulation as well as Angel Ikeda had her shot hit off the post in the 86th minute.

In overtime, SIUE quickly moved into the attack zone.Â
Sara Teteak was able to save the first shot on net by Andrea Frerker but the rebound was reset by the Cougars and Emma Dutko headed home the winner off a cross by Jostes.
