CHARLESTON, IL - The Panthers faced the Omaha Mavericks on Saturday afternoon in a physical match; resulting in a 0-0 tie. The Panthers had a great match on the defensive end, holding the Mavericks to 15 shots. The Panthers record moves to 4-7-2, with Omaha's moving to 3-6-3.
The Mavericks were unable to find an opening against the defense of
Edgar Mesa,
Quinn Rechner,
Delphy Sabu and goalkeeper
Jonathan Burke, who ended the match with eight saves. Rechner, Mesa, and Sabu played all 110 minutes of the match, anchoring down the defense.Â
The Panthers played well on offense, managing seven shots.
Luke Kurili and
Jonas Castelhano led Eastern in shot attempts with two a piece. Castelhano had a near goal from a long shot outside that box that smacked off of the crossbar.
Christian Sosnowski,
Quinn Rechner and
Cole Stephens each took a shot as well. The Panthers had a few near makes, including a pass that was just missed for an easy goal.
EIU will finish out the regular season on the road, starting with a match on Oct. 26, against the Leathernecks of Western Illinois. The Panthers have a total of three more matches before The Summit League tournament starts.Â
