CHARLESTON, Ill.– The Panthers looked to carry momentum after their first win in OVC play last night. The Panthers falls to Jacksonville State in straight sets (20-25, 14-25, 18-25).
In the first set it was back and forth early in the set. The Panthers held their own throughout the set and kept it close through the fist ten points. EIU brought it back with in four points but in the end the Gamecocks earned the last point to win the set by five.
The Gamecocks got out to a quick start scoring the first three points. JSU would go on a five point run to gain control of the set early on. The Gamecocks go on multiple runs throughout the set to separate themselves from EIU by 13 points. Late in the second set
Danielle Allen and the Panthers tried to rally back but JSU took the second set 25-14.
In the final set the Gamecocks jump out to a 7-1 lead over the Panthers to take control early. The Panther go on a four point run to bring them back with in four points mid set. EIU makes a last chance effort to close in on the Gamecocks but JSU earns three of the last four points to take the match.
The Panthers were led by
Maggie Runge with eight kills and added five blocks.
Bailey Chandler led the team in assists with 23.
The Panthers are back in action Friday (Oct. 25) on the road at Morehead State at 5 p.m. On Saturday (Oct. 26) the Panthers head to Eastern Kentucky to play at 1 p.m.
