EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – After two matches at home this past weekend, the Eastern Illinois volleyball team took to the road for its first OVC road match of the season against SIUE. The Panthers dropped their first OVC road contest in straight sets to SIUE (7-25, 20-25, 16-25).

The Panthers got off to a rough start in the first set against SIUE. The Cougars got off to a fast start with 3-0 run to oepn the set. After two points by EIU, SIUE went on a 15-0 run to gain control of the set and take the lead by 17 points.
Bailey Chandler was able to stop the Cougar run with a kill. The Cougars went on to win the set 25-7.
In the second set the Panthers kept it close within the first part of the set. At 10-10 the Panthers tied it up. EIU took its first lead of the set off of a Chandler ace. It was back and forth throughout the set before the Cougars closed out the set with a 5-0 run.Â
The Cougars again got off to a quick start before
Maggie Runge had back to back blocks to tie up the set and give EIU some early momentum. SIUE pulled away late to win the final set and sweep the match.

Maggie Runge with seven kills, she also added two blocks.
Bailey Chandler led the team in assists with 17 while
Hannah Sieg led the team in blocks with three. The Cougars were led by Jordyn Klein and Hope Everett with eight kills each.Â
