NASHVILLE, TENN. – After losing on the road this past Wednesday at SIUE, the Panthers looked for their first win in the OVC. The Panthers played hard, but couldn't manage to defeat the Bruins and lost to Belmont in three sets, (22-25, 11-25, 23-25).
The Panthers got off to a quick start in the first set jumping out to a 5-1 lead. Belmont went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set at 13-12. The Bruins got to 20 first but the Panthers rallied back to tie the set at 20-20. Belmont ended up scoring five of the last seven points to take set one.
In the second set the Bruins got out to a fast start leading by five early. Belmont would go on multiple runs to take control of the second set. The Panthers tried to gain their footing back but were never able to and lost the set by 14.
In the third set it was back and forth throughout the entire set. There were a total five lead changes within the third set. The Panthers went up 23-22, but the Bruins fought back and won the last three points to take set three and the match.
The Panthers were led by
Kylie Michael with eight kills and 18 digs.
Bailey Chandler led the team in assists with 24, while
Hannah Sieg collected five blocks. The Bruins were led by Taylor Floyd with ten points and Carly Mason led the team in assists with 33. Mackenzie Harless and Halee Van Poppel led the team in blocks with two each.
The Panthers are back in action on Friday (Oct. 11) at Southeast Missouri and then at UT Martin on Saturday (Oct. 12).
