CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois women's soccer picked up its first win of the Ohio Valley Conference season as the Panthers opened a five-match homestand on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State at Lakeside Field.

EIU improved to 2-7-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the OVC. JSU fell to 3-9 overall, 0-4 in the OVC.

The Panthers used an aggressive approach from the opening kick as they were able to get on the board in the 18th minute as senior
Lindsey Carlson had her first career goal.Â
Lexi Ketterhagen sent a cross through the top of the box that Carlson found on the left side and redirected to the upper right corner for the goal.

Leading 1-0 at the half, EIU added an insurance goal in the 56th minute as
Haylee Renick had a quick touch on two quick passes that set up the goal.Â
Pilar Barrio and
Sarah DeWolf triggered the attack for EIU to collect assists.

JSU countered in the next minute scoring just 22 seconds after the Panthers second goal. Emma Meadows dribbled down the middle of the pitch and had a quick pass to Cynthia Bagozzi who finished off the goal with a low shot from the top of the box.

Sara Teteak would stop the remaining shot on goal for JSU as the Gamecocks had seven total shots but only two on net. EIU finished with 11 shots including eight on goal.

The final goal of the match came on an own goal as Barrio was pressuring in the box for an attack for EIU. JSU attempted to clear the ball but instead misdirected the ball into their own net.
