Eastern Illinois travels to the State of Texas for the second time this season as the Panthers will play in the Incarnate Word MTE event this weekend in San Antonio. EIU opens play on Friday against Saint Francis (Ill.) before playing Bethune-Cookman on Saturday and host UIW on Sunday. The Panthers enter at 2-2 on the season following two impressive home wins over Chicago State and Indiana Northwest. Saint Francis is 3-2 on the year. Bethune-Cookman is 2-2 while Incarnate Word is 1-3.
PANTHERS SCORE BIG IN HOME WIN
Eastern Illinois scored 114 points in its home win against Indiana Northwest as the Panthers cracked the 100 point barrier for the 18th time as an NCAA Division I school and the 64th time overall in program history. The last time EIU hit the century mark for a game was a 101-49 win over Fontbonne University on Dec. 19, 2016. The 114 points are the seventh most scored in a game in school history and the most since EIU had 121 on Jan. 30, 1988 in a 126-121 four-overtime loss to Northern Iowa.
HANDING OUT THE ASSISTS
Eastern Illinois has done a good job sharing the ball in both of the Panthers recent home wins with 29 assists in each game.Â
Deang Deang had a team high eight assists in the win over Indiana Northwest while
George Dixon had a team high five assists against Chicago State. EIU currently ranks 12th in the NCAA in assists per game at 19.5.
