GAME 13
Eastern Illinois opens Ohio Valley Conference play on Thursday at Tennessee State as the Panthers will play their first four conference games on the road. The Nashville swing will end on Saturday at Belmont. EIU is 7-5 after a road loss at Grand Canyon just prior to the Holiday Break. EIU has now posted a winning non-conference record in four of the last six years. TSU enters at 8-5 winning two of their last three games.
SKIPPER-BROWN ON THE GLASS
Jordan Skipper-Brown was active on the glass in the Panthers final non-conference game at Grand Canyon. The junior pulled down 11 rebounds with five of them on the offensive glass. It was his second double figure rebounding game of the season after posting a double-double earlier this year against Chicago State (11 points, 11 rebounds). Skipper-Brown added six points at Grand Canyon on 2-of-2 shooting from the field. He enters OVC play leading the conference in field goal percentage at 75.5 percent. He has made seven of his last nine shots from the field. He has four double figure scoring games this season with a high of 14 against Indiana Northwest. He recently had ten points in the road win at Western Illinois.
OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE OPENERS
Eastern Illinois will open the Ohio Valley Conference season on the road Thursday night at Tennessee State. The Panthers are 3-4 in previous OVC openers under head coach
Jay Spoonhour snapping a three game losing skid last year with a home overtime win over UT Martin. EIU has lost four straight OVC road openers with the last win on the road to open the conference season on Dec. 3, 2009, a triple-overtime road win at Tennessee State (83-81). This will be the seventh time EIU has opened the OVC season against TSU with EIU winning four of the six previous meetings.
