Men's Tennis Adds Two Wins On Sunday

Panthers beat Wright State and Saint Francis

DEKALB, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis wrapped up a long weekend of action with a pair of wins on Sunday in DeKalb.  EIU beat Wright State 4-2 in the first match before closing with a 7-0 win over Saint Francis.

EIU is now 6-4 on the season after going 3-2 for the weekend.  Wright State fell to 3-3.  Saint Francis dropped to 0-7.

In the first match of the day EIU edged Wright State 4-2.  The Panthers claimed the doubles point winning two of the three matches.  Mike Jansen and Daniel Hernandez won at number two doubles while Logan Charbonneau and Freddie O'Brien won at number three doubles.

The two teams would then split the six singles matches.  EIU picked up wins at number one, two and four singles.  O'Brien clinched the match for the Panthers with his win at number one over Param Pun.  O'Brien won 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Jansen won at number two singles 6-2, 6-2 over Fernando Nardelli.  Hernandez won in straight sets over Javier Alvarez 6-3, 6-2.  

Wright State won at number three and number five singles.  The match at number six singles between Charbonneau and Leighton Brandon was a no result after O'Brien won the overall match for the Panthers.

In the second match EIU breezed by Saint Francis by a 7-0 score.  EIU opened winning the doubles point with victories at number two and number three doubles.

In singles play EIU won all six matches in straight sets.  Jansen, Hernandez and Luka Knieling quickly won the first three sets to clinch the overall match for the Panthers.  Knieling won 6-4, 6-3 at number four singles over Mike Hasler that sealed the win.
