GAME 28
Eastern Illinois heads to Nashville for a two-game swing as the Panthers will wrap up a portion of the schedule that has included five road games over a six game stretch. The Music City swing opens on Thursday at OVC co-leader Belmont. EIU enters the game 14-13 overall, 7-7 in the OVC. EIU has currently lost four of its last five games following a home loss on Saturday to Southeast Missouri. Belmont has won nine straight games to improve to 21-4 overall, 12-2 in the OVC. The Bruins are currently ranked fourth in the Mid-Major Top 25 poll.Â
HARVEY WINS OVC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONOR
Ben Harvey was named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week after averaging 22 points per game last week for the Panthers. Harvey opened the week with 15 points in the road win at SIUE. On Saturday he was a catalyst for an EIU offense that shot 53.4 percent from the floor. Harvey was 11-of-14 from the field as he finished with 29 points, the second highest EIU freshman single game total in school history. It marked the third straight double figure scoring game for Harvey and his 16th double figure game this season. Harvey ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.3 ppg.
KASHAWN CHARLES FINISHES IN DOUBLE FIGURES
Kashawn Charles had another good Saturday afternoon in Lantz Arena as he scored ten points off the bench. It was the second consecutive home Saturday game that Charles scored in double figures after dropping 19 on Feb. 1 against Morehead State. Charles has now scored in double figures in four games this season with three of those at home. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers against Southeast Missouri to move into first place in the OVC in 3-point field goal percentage at 46.4 percent for the year. Â
