PEORIA, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis came up short on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers lost 5-2 to Omaha wrapping up a two-match stint in Peoria.
The Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 lead clinching the doubles point with wins at number two and number three doubles.Â
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and
Srishti Slaria partnered to win at number one doubles with a 6-2 win.
Papavasilopoulos quickly evened the match at 1-1 as she beat Janell Wilson in number one singles action. Papavasilopoulos won 6-1, 6-3.
Omaha extended its lead to 3-1 with wins at number five and number two singles.Â
Karla Contreras then brought the Panthers to within one point with her win at number six singles. Contreras won 6-2, 6-4 over Rylee Tucker.
Omaha would clinch the deciding fourth point at number four singles with Emily Behling beating
Claire Martin, 6-0, 6-4. Omaha locked up the fifth point at number three singles with
Abby Carpenter falling in three sets.Â
EIU is now 3-2 on the season. Omaha is 2-3.
