Men's Tennis Splits A Pair Of Matches In Normal

EIU beats Illinois Wesleyan, falls to Illinois State

NORMAL, Ill – Eastern Illinois opened what will be a five-match weekend on Friday as the Panthers split a pair of matches in Normal.  EIU beat Illinois Wesleyan in the morning before falling to Illinois State in the night cap.

EIU beat IWU 9-0 and lost to ISU 6-1 to stand at 4-3 on the season.

Eastern Illinois opened the day winning a 9-0 match at Illinois Wesleyan.  The Panthers swept all three doubles matches with Gertjan De Wilder and Braden Davis picking up the most convincing win, 8-1, at number three doubles.

De Wilder and Davis would continue their strong play for the Panthers in singles play as they both won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 over their opponents.  De Wilder defeated Michael Behrensmeyer at number five singles while Davis dispatched of Will Dooley at number six singles.

Mike Jansen would also pick up a straight set win 6-0, 6-0 at number two singles while Freddie O'Brien and Logan Charbonneau added straight set victories.  Luka Knieling moved up in an adjusted singles line-up and needed three sets to defeat Ryan Yoo, 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.

In the night cap things good things continued for the Panthers as they rattled of their tenth straight point of the day winning the doubles.  Gage Kingsmith and Gertjan De Wilder won 6-3 at number two doubles while Logan Charbonneau and Freddie O'Brien teamed up to win at number three doubles.

In singles action the Redbirds gained the upper hand winning all six points to take the match 6-1.  The top five ISU players all won in straight sets with Mike Jansen challenging  at number two singles before falling 7-6, 6-0 to Diego Le Gal Perez.

De Wilder would push his match at number six singles to three sets before losing to Egehan Sertkaya 6-3, 5-7, 10-7.
