The Eastern Illinois baseball team competed in their second game of the conference series against Murray State on Saturday. The Racers evened out the series defeating the Panthers 3-1.

With the loss EIU drops to 7-10 (2-3 OVC), while Murray State improves to 7-10 (3-2 OVC).

The Racers got on the board early scoring in two straight innings to open the second game of the series.Â

Shane Burns got the call on the hill for the Racers for the second game. Burns earned his second win of the season, tossing 7.0 innings with four strikeouts, three walks, and two hits.

Spenser Dexter started the second game for the Panthers on the hill. Dexter fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss this afternoon. Dexter tossed 6.2 innings, with four strikeouts, four hits, three runs (two earned), and three walks.

Josh Cooper came in for relief throwing 2.1 innings. Cooper finished with two strikeouts, two walks, and one hit.

Matt Waznis came in to pinch hit for
Dane Toppel in the bottom of the ninth. Waznis hit his first career hit as a Panther with a single up the middle to lead off the inning.

The Panthers put pressure on the racers in the bottom of the ninth. Waznis led the ninth inning rally with a lead off single to center.
Ryan Knernschield would move Kerrigan who came in to pinch run for Waznis into scoring postion with a single down the left field line.
Ryan Ignoffo would load the bases drawing a one out walk.
Christian Pena would drive in the first run for the Panthers with a walk.

Braydon Cook was able to secure the victory in the bottom of the ninth for the Racers. Cook earned his second save of the season tossing 0.2 innings with a strikeout.
