Baseball Falls To Murray State In Series Finale

EIU baseball falls in series finale to Murray State 14-6

The Eastern Illinois baseball team wrapped up their conference series against Murray State this weekend.  Murray State was able to defeat EIU 14-6 in the series finale.
 
With the loss EIU drops to 7-11 (2-4 OVC), while Murray State improves to 8-10 (4-2 OVC).
 
Murray State got on the board early with a two run homerun by Brock Anderson in the top of the first inning.
 
EIU would cut the Murray State lead down to run one in the bottom of the first, as Jimmy Govern would score on a Ryan Knernschield single through the left side.
 
The Racers added two more runs in the top of the second inning. Tyler Jones' day ended in the top of the third inning. Jones ended with three hits, three walks, two earned runs, and a strikeout.
 
The Panthers added another run in the bottom of the second. Huber was able to score when Govern would reach on an error by Dylan Letellier.
 
Anderson would give Murray State a 6-2 lead in the top of the fourth with his second two run homer of the afternoon.
 
Murray State would score five runs through the fifth and the sixth innings to extend their lead to 11-2.
 
Christian Pena was able to drive in the third run for the Panthers in the bottom of the seventh inning with an RBI single through the left side.
 
The Racers added two more runs in the top of the eighth to extend their lead to 13-3.
 
The Panthers rallied in the bottom eighth inning adding three runs. Govern drove in the Panthers fourth run of the game with a single up the middle to score Sweeney.  Knernschield would hit a one run double to center to bring Hunter Morris home. Pena would drive in the sixth run with an RBI single up the middle. Murray State was able to stop the Panther rally and secure the series.
