The Eastern Illinois baseball team took on Tennessee Tech in the first game of their conference series Friday evening. The Panthers were able to defeat the golden eagles 13-2.
 
With the win the Panthers improve to 9-11 (3-4 OVC), while Tennessee Tech drops to 11-9 (2-5 OVC).
 
The Panthers game out aggressive early, jumping out to a 6-0 lead. Christian Pena would reach on a throwing error to kick off the inning. Matt Waznis would triple down the right field line to drive in Pena. Keith Kerrigan singled up the middle to give the Panthers a two run lead. Trey Sweeney would single through the right side to keep the rally alive. EIU would keep the rally alive when Tyler Tesmond would single to left center to drive in Kerrigan. Jimmy Govern would give the Panthers their fourth run of the inning with a single to center. Hunter Morris would hit a two run double to right center to extend the EIU lead to six. Pena would bring in the seventh run of the inning on a sacrifice bunt.
 
Jay Meuse would give Tennessee Tech their first run of the game with a one run single down the left field line in the bottom of the second. Kevin Stohschein would double down the left field line in the bottom of the third inning to give the Golden Eagles their second run of the game.
 
Pena would earn his second RBI of the game with a one run single to right field to score Emme. Trey Sweeney was able to drive in two runs with a two run single to center . Govern extended the Panther lead to 12 with an RBI single to left center.
 
Michael YaSenka earned his second win of the season improving to 2-3. YaSenka tossed 7.0 innings with eight strikeouts.
