CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis opened the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference schedule on Friday morning hosting Jacksonville State. JSU would edge EIU, 4-3, in the match played at Darling Courts in Charleston.
EIU fell to 8-6 overall, 0-1 in the OVC. EIU will play at SIUE on Tuesday. JSU improved to 8-2 overall, 1-0 in the OVC.
JSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead as the Gamecocks won the doubles point with wins at number one and number two doubles. The number three doubles match was left unfinished after JSU captured the doubles point.
The Gamecocks would quickly add to their lead winning the point at number six singles after
Shelby Anderson had to retire in her match against Cristina Moll Alles in the fourth game of the first set.
JSU would then win the next two singles points to clinch the match with wins at number three and number four singles.
EIU won the final three points of the match for the final score.
Srishti Slaria won at number two singles beating Alessa Locati in two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos won in three sets over Harriet Hamilton at number one singles. Papavasilopoulos won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Karla Contreras would secure the final point for EIU at number five singles beating Elena Tendero in three sets. Contreras won 2-6, 7-6, 10-6.
