The Eastern Illinois baseball team opened up conference play at Jacksonville State on Friday. Â The Panthers were able to tie the game late and take the Gamecocks into extra innings. Jacksonville State was able to secure the first game of the series with a walk off home run in the bottom of the 12th.

With the loss EIU drops to 3-8 (0-1 OVC), while JSU advances to 6-9 (1-0 OVC)

The Panthers opened up conference play strong with a lead off home run by
Jimmy Govern. The homer marks the first home run for Govern in the 2019 season.

The Gamecocks responded in the bottom of the second inning when Chase Robinson would hit a go-ahead two run homer to left field.

Govern earned his second RBI of the afternoon tying up the game at two in the top of the third inning when he grounded out to short to drive in
Grant Emme.

Jacksonville State answered back with two outs in the bottom of the third when Andrew Naismith drove a three run triple down the right field line.

Christian Pena had two RBIs throughout the fourth and sixth innings. Pena drove in his first RBI in the top of the fourth with a single to right field. In the top of the sixth Pena drove an RBI single to center to drive in
Jimmy Huber.

The Panthers were able to tie the game in the top of the seventh. The panthers were able to tie the game up on a
Ryan Knernschield single to the pitcher. Govern was able to score on the single due to a throwing error.

Cole Fredrick was able to walk it off in the bottom of the 12th inning with a lead off homer to left field.
