Men's Tennis Spilts Matches To Open Spring Break

EIU beats Olivet Nazarene, loses to Chicago State

Eastern Illinois men's tennis played two matches to kick off its spring break as the Panthers beat Olivet Nazarene 6-3 before falling to Chicago State 5-2. 
 
EIU is now 9-9 on the season. 
 
Eastern Illinois men's tennis picked up a 6-3 win over Olivet Nazarene which was the Panthers third straight win.   EIU opened the match winning all three doubles points in closely contested matches.  Gage Kingsmith and Gertjan De Wilder won 8-6 at number one doubles with Daniel Hernandez and Mike Jansen winning 8-5 at number two doubles.   Logan Charbonneau and Freddie O'Brien improved to 8-0 when playing at number three doubles picking up an 8-5 win.
 
O'Brien then handed the Panthers a 4-0 lead with his win at number one singles as he beat Francisco Faria 6-1, 6-4. 
 
Hernandez and Luka Knieling also picked up two set wins for the Panthers in the match.  Hernandez won 6-2, 6-1 at number three singles defeating Jonathan Hentschel.  Knieling won 6-4, 7-5 at number six singles over Jon Merki.
 
Olivet Nazarene won singles matches at number two, four and five singles.  The wins at number four and five singles both came in three sets. 
 
In the second match the Panthers fell to Chicago State 5-2.   CSU won the doubles point winning at number one and number two doubles.  Charbonneau and O'Brien won at number three doubles with a 6-1 score.
 
The Panthers two points both came in singles play.  Charbonneau won at number five singles over Cody Wurzelbacher.  Charbonneau led 5-0 in the first set when his opponent retired from the match.
 
De Wilder defeated Nick Liddy 6-4, 6-0 at number six singles.
